B-Lab: Advanced robotic testing of surgical devices

The purpose of  B-Lab project is to carry out research and development in the area of surgical medical devices through the implementation of technological advances in the fields of robotics, motion capture and three-dimensional imaging. 

Its first objective is the design of advanced in vitro models of human joints allowing to reproduce complex motions and stresses sustained by orthopaedic implants in vivo. Mid-term goal is to achieve a leading position in advanced modeling of human articular motion as well as in the processes of assessing surgical devices clinical performances and safety.

The multidisciplinary research team is led by the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Traumatology of the Geneva University Hospitals in collaboration with the Kinesiology Laboratory of the University of Geneva (UNIGE) Faculty of Medicine. The B-Lab is located within the Teaching of Anatomy Unit of  the Faculty of Medicine, on the premises of the centre médical universitaire (CMU). A partnership with the Geneva University of Applied Sciences, School of Engineering, Architecture and Landscape (HEPIA) secures technical expertise.
